The Proclamation of the July Revolution is an important political document of the July Revolution of 1830 in France, which ended the bourgeois/dominant capitalist monarchy in France and paved the way for the establishment of a constitutional monarchy of the people.
Although it is historically inspired by the July Revolution of 1830 in France, the demand for a proposed document or the Declaration of the July Revolution to outline the political, economic and social changes in Bangladesh came to the fore after the student uprising in 2024.
Its main objectives are:
Establishment of democracy: To re-establish a democratic system of governance in the country.
Elimination of inequality: To ensure equality by reducing social and economic inequality.
Protection of human rights: To ensure the fundamental rights and freedom of speech of citizens.
What is in the Declaration?
Although the declaration has not been officially published, it is likely to include the following:
Formulation of a new constitution: Drafting a new constitution through a Constituent Assembly that reflects the will of the people.
Electoral reform: Reforming the electoral system for free and fair elections.
Protection of human rights: Ensuring freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and individual liberty.
Independence of the judiciary: Ensuring the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.
Fight against corruption: Taking effective measures to prevent corruption.
Social justice: Ensuring equal opportunities and rights for all classes of people.
Latest Status of July Revolution:
The declaration was scheduled to be published on 31 December 2024, but the publication was postponed due to the interim government's initiative to draft a declaration based on national consensus. Instead, a rally titled 'March for Unity' was held, where support for the declaration was expressed.
Today, 31 December 2024, the rally titled 'March for Unity' strongly demanded that the July declaration be issued by 15 January.
